Just a Bit Out Of My Comfort Zone!

I just couldn't resist joining in on the fun with K. Andrew and her Vintage Challenge this week. If I had to choose my favorite technique or style I would have to choose Vintage or Shabby Chic. I don't do a lot of layouts however I am teaching a scrapbook class at Michael's and had to make some sample :LO to show my abilities. I actually shocked myself. I absolutely fell in love with this LO. The subject was my inspiration . The little angel in the picture is my husband's grand-baby. Isn't she the cutest? You should see the red hair! For me this pose just screamed "vintage" and that's exactly where it took me in the choice of color scheme and papers. I also challenged myself with attempting to make everything homemade and I almost succeeded. There are two "newsprint flowers" and pearls on the LO that came from Michaels-the rest of the embellishments were either cut with the Cricut, punches or made by hand.
Recipe:
Cartridges:
Cindy Loo;Once Upon a Princess;Just Because Cards;Paper Lace
Papers:
DCWV Glitter Stack
DCWV  Lace & Linen
Colorblock Papers
K & Company
Tim Holtz Distess Inks
Lindy's Moon Shadow Mists
Tattered Angels
Pink & beige flowers handmade
Antique Lace bought in Mass. Antique Store
I cut multiple layers to give my words additional dimension.
I must admit this is the very first time I have have submitted a LO for a challenge. This is really out of my comfort zone! If you haven't already go check out the challenge at  Getting Cricky with K. Andrew and see all the great projects the design team created. Thanks for stopping by my blog and taking the time to look!
Have a wonderful week everyone!
Later!

We Love Our Hero's Blog Hop

Today is Armed Forces Day, so again, this is a hop to support and bring awareness to the works of Operation Write Home . You should have arrived from Anita's Blog, Crafts From Miracles Table if not please start back at our talented and wonderful hostess, Misty's blog, so you don’t miss anything this wonderful group has to offer. In addition to card makers making cards for service persons to send home to their families, OWH has what they call ‘Hero Mail’. These cards can be any size; not just the usual required A2. They also include a personal note to ‘Any Hero’. We call them Hero’s, because OWH covers all branches of service. These are passed out to  deployed hero’s, who might not get much mail, or just passed around to enjoy news from home.  Here is more info.
http://operationwritehome.org/anyhero.html
Thank you to All of our Heros, past , present and those who serve on the Home front as well! My hero's are my husband, retired Army and my stepson who served in 2 wars with the US Marine Corp. and is now in his 3rd year in Afghanistan serving as a civilian with the State Department. So very proud of you two!
My card is a twisted easel card. I  have seen this style but this is the first time I've attempted it. I like the effect !

A Birthday Card with Hello Kitty

Good evening peeps! I've been pretty lax this past week in posting so I thought I had better make some type of appearance soon before you all forget me! Welcome new followers! I can't believe I am up to 40 already! Just love it! Thank you also for the great comments, I really do read them and appreciate them. Today I finally managed to clear my home of the last of the Christmas decorations. The house looks & feels so bare now. With that week long chore complete I can get back into the swing of things. Thank goodness for birthdays or I would be without something to show you!
You all know I love round cards so I just had to make one for Arielle. She loves Hello Kitty so the theme was a no-brainer.
I cut the scalloped card from Wild Card Cart using the" fit to page" feature on my Cricut Expression. The top (purple) layer was a freehand shape rescued from an error I made...oops! The border was punched using a Martha Stewart Hearts Border punch. Kitty's soft fur was made by running the pieces through my Xyron and then covering the adhesive using Cotton Ball White Fun Flock. I was unable to find Hello Kitty with a cupcake so I had to add that on, but it was taken from the Hello Kitty Cart. The cupcake holder was scored to give it is pleated appearance, The frosting was made using my favorite Goldens Medium and the cherry was made using Stickles. If I were to remake this card I would definitely use narrower ribbon for her bow or perhaps just use the paper version. It is difficult to see in the picture but a white heart button is sewn in the middle. The bling was adhered using my Irock for the very first time! The paper was from DCWV, the flowers were Prima. "Hey Cupcake" was stamped from Scrappy Moms "Sweet Somethings" set. I love those stamps! As a matter of fact I love them so much that I ordered a duplicate set so guess what part of my blog candy will be for Debbies Birthday Blog Hop on January 24th-28th? I think you may have the answer or part of it anyhow! Guess you will just have to stop by & see!
Later!
