It's My Birthday Blog Hop-Day Two

Welcome to Day Two of  Debbie's "It's My Birthday" Blog Hop. As I mentioned yesterday, this is my very first Blog Hop and I want to take the opportunity to thank Debbie for inviting me to participate. I feel so honored! And it has been so exciting!
If you've come from Kathy's Blog, Paper Fanatic, then you're on the right track. If you just happened upon my blog then welcome! Perhaps you'd like to join the celebration from the beginning, starting at our sweet host and Birthday Girl, Debbie's Creativity Heals. Wouldn't want you to miss a thing, There is so much great talent to be seen thru the week!
So are you having a great time? Yesterday we had cake, today it's presents! Now who doesn't love presents? I know I do. I'm especially fond of presents that come in small boxes. They tend to be extra special. So I decided to make a small gift! So small the tag almost hides it! The box itself is a surprise. It is my first attempt at an explosion box and it was surprisingly easy! You can find the tutorial here at Splitcoaststampers.
I wanted to take it one step further and make the inside a little more festive for the occasion so I tried my hand at a cake (I think I'm fixated on inedible cakes! "No Points"- TOO many Weight Watchers meetings!).
Recipe:
Box & Lid: K & Company double sided paper
ScorPal
Tag: Lacy Labels
Paper from my stash
Cake: Light wt. cardboard
2-Spellbinders Nestabilities Scallop Circles (2")
6"x2" strip stamped for side of cake
4 computer generated greetings adhered to sides
That's all there is to it! Easy peasy! Now about that YUMMY Blog Candy!
For those of you that become followers and leave comments on my blog for all 5 days of our Blog Hop there's a little extra in store for you! So be sure if you missed yesterday you go back and leave a comment!
Here is what I am offering!

A Plea for your help!

I have just learned of a fellow crafter, Katie Renz who was diagnosed with stage IV Gastric Cancer shortly before Christmas. She is a young mom of 3 young boys. There are several Scrap blogs who are collecting money to assist with her medical bills. This young lady is in a fight for her life. As a cancer survivor I am pleading with you to give what you can to help this family. I have lost an Aunt to this cancer as well. You can follower Katie's fight on her blog, My Paper Haven
For those of you who can afford to donate....even a dollar will help...please click here.
Encouraging words can be so comforting. Won't you consider sending a card? These can be sent to:
Katie Renz
PO Box 5913
Bellingham, WA 98227-5913
I am going to ask you for one final favor, your prayers for Katie. I have witnessed miracles & that is exactly what Katie needs!

Welcome New Followers, a Birthday Tag and a PARTY! Die Cut Dreams Challenge #80

View from my kitchen
Brrrr......baby it's cold outside! Hope everyone is staying warm and cozy today. It was a snowy one here in the Hudson Valley.
Very pretty but not nice if you had to drive in it! I took advantage and worked on a few things that I have been putting off for awhile. Great excuse to sit back and be creative. Did you hear we can also PARTY?? Enfy from Going Buggy is having a party and a challenge for some GREAT CANDY!! So my B-day card tag is going to visit her blog as well! Hey Enfy....you did say Butterflies are "bugs" for this one! Join in the fun!
I want  to welcome my new followers and thank those from Flaunt it Fridays who visited and left such nice comments on my Hello Kitty card. They didn't even scrutinize me for not following directions ( duh....that was a cupcake Kath not a plane!) and for that I am grateful. Sorry ladies I'm real new at this!(Can't read either obviously!) I was thrilled to see all of the sweet comments !

I have sat on the sidelines for months loving all of the Vintage Tags I have been seeing out there, I just adore them. So I decided to be brave and try one today. Actually I made one a few days ago but it was a bit drab and I wanted to use it as a Birthday card. So..if at first you don't succeed, isn't that what they say? So I tried again and I am happy I did!  The tag was cut from Tags,Bags & More (7 X 3.24) I used Kraft paper for the base and gorgeous papers  from K & Company for the layers. I used water distressing on the edges of the  papers. This is the very first time I used this technique. I love the vintage look it gives the over all appearance of the papers and tag. I used a MS punch for the butterflies and heat embossed them 3 times with clear embossing powder.  The pink was sprinkled with MS glitter. The key and heart charms were out of my stash. I do not know the brand however they were bought at Michaels on the clearance isle of course! The stick pin is one of the very first I made. Again the sentiment was from a set of stamps I purchased at Michaels but it had been out of it's packaging for sometime..long before I began blogging so I have no idea of the manufacturer. That is one of my favorite sentiments!
The lace border is Wrights brand "Pearls on Beading". Pretty isn't it? I coated the entire card, front and back with Modge Podge to give it some substance. As you can see in the picture I was impatient and took the picture before it was thoroughly dried. Patience is not one of my strong points!
I used my Helmar Tape Runner on this project and I have to tell you that I was really impressed. It glides easily across the paper and I was able to manipulate it around the scallops without a problem. I had no issues with the adhesive balling up as I have with other runners. I really love it! I can't find it in the stores yet but you can find it online. Follow the link for a list of retailers.
So there you have it. Sure hope the recipient likes it! Lots of TLC went into this one!
Stay warm dear friends!
I getting braver peeps. I've entered this tag in yet another challenge-Die Cut Dreams . Check 'em out!
Happy Crafting!

A Birthday Card with Hello Kitty

Good evening peeps! I've been pretty lax this past week in posting so I thought I had better make some type of appearance soon before you all forget me! Welcome new followers! I can't believe I am up to 40 already! Just love it! Thank you also for the great comments, I really do read them and appreciate them. Today I finally managed to clear my home of the last of the Christmas decorations. The house looks & feels so bare now. With that week long chore complete I can get back into the swing of things. Thank goodness for birthdays or I would be without something to show you!
You all know I love round cards so I just had to make one for Arielle. She loves Hello Kitty so the theme was a no-brainer.
I cut the scalloped card from Wild Card Cart using the" fit to page" feature on my Cricut Expression. The top (purple) layer was a freehand shape rescued from an error I made...oops! The border was punched using a Martha Stewart Hearts Border punch. Kitty's soft fur was made by running the pieces through my Xyron and then covering the adhesive using Cotton Ball White Fun Flock. I was unable to find Hello Kitty with a cupcake so I had to add that on, but it was taken from the Hello Kitty Cart. The cupcake holder was scored to give it is pleated appearance, The frosting was made using my favorite Goldens Medium and the cherry was made using Stickles. If I were to remake this card I would definitely use narrower ribbon for her bow or perhaps just use the paper version. It is difficult to see in the picture but a white heart button is sewn in the middle. The bling was adhered using my Irock for the very first time! The paper was from DCWV, the flowers were Prima. "Hey Cupcake" was stamped from Scrappy Moms "Sweet Somethings" set. I love those stamps! As a matter of fact I love them so much that I ordered a duplicate set so guess what part of my blog candy will be for Debbies Birthday Blog Hop on January 24th-28th? I think you may have the answer or part of it anyhow! Guess you will just have to stop by & see!
Later!
